Lakshmi, 2017
53" x 36"
My memories of Lakshmi are kept in pixels, those little squares which are assembled and transformed into her image. Lakshmi had the ability to switch roles from mother to sister or wife or daughter as easily and gracefully as the drape of her silk saris. Simply altering the role of her saris from clothes to cloth, I recycled them into pixels. And as I walk away, those pixels assemble and metamorphose into her image and return safely to the confines of my memory.
SAQA Global Exhibition - Metamorphosis, 2018 - 2021
